JMcMillan photoProfessor John McMillan AO is the Acting NSW Ombudsman, appointed for a two year term in August 2015. He was previously the inaugural Australian Information Commissioner (2010-15), Commonwealth Ombudsman (2003-10), the Integrity Commissioner (Acting) for the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity (2007) and is a member of the Australian Copyright Tribunal (2015-18).

John is an Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University, where he taught administrative and constitutional law from 1983-2003. He is a co-author of Control of Government Action: Text, Cases and Commentary (2015, 4th ed).

John was a joint founding member of the Freedom of Information Campaign Committee in the 1970s, which spearheaded the public campaign for FOI legislation in Australia. He is a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, and former President of the Australian Institute of Administrative Law.
